In connection with the attempted murder of my servant on the 18th instant, as far as I can gather from enquiries made, I find the whole matter has arisen from the recent strike on Shameen,

My former cook left my employ together with the other strikers, and upon the termination of the strike returned, and appeared to be very willing to resume his duties, but owing to aggressive intimidation from mem- bers of the strike committee he was forced to leave again. Also, the other servants in my employ were constantly receiving intimidatory pamphlets urging them not to remain in their situations as otherwise they would be severely dealt with, which threats, na- turally forced them to obey.

Upon my obtaining the services of another cook on the 15th instant, he was frequently asked in whose employ he was, and upon his refusal to furnish the information, was told that they already knew and advised him to immediately leave; he refused, with the result, that whilst making his usual purchases in the city, he was stabbed in the abdomen and now hies in hospital dangerously wounded.
